The Institute of National Planning held at its headquarters the third episode of “Tuesday Seminar”, which was devoted to talking about Dr. Ismail Sabry Abdullah, one of the senior planning pioneers in Egypt and the director of the National Planning Institute during the period (1969-1977).
Participated in the episode were: Ibrahim El-Essawy, Professor of Economics at the Institute of National Planning, and Prof. Ahmed Saqr Ashour, Professor of Strategic Management at Alexandria University, and Prof. Ashraf El-Araby, President of the Institute of National Planning, and the meeting was moderated by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ahmed Mustafa, Professor of International Economics at the Institute of National Planning and the general coordinator of the seminar, in addition to the participation of a distinguished group of thinkers and professors of planning, economics and politics, including Dr. Gouda Abdel Khalek and Dr. Samir Radwan.
In this context, Dr. Ashraf El-Araby explained that this meeting is a continuation of a series of seminars that the institute started to hold, to talk about the pioneers of the Institute of National Planning who left a great scientific and intellectual legacy, over many decades.
Al-Arabi stressed that the aim of holding these seminars is not only to honor these pioneers, but also to re-read their scientific production and try to deduce solutions to the problems and crises facing the world today.
Al-Arabi also indicated that the first episode started with a talk about Dr. Ibrahim Helmy Abdel Rahman, the founder and first director of the Institute, and the second episode was devoted to Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Al-Imam, the great Arab economic thinker. The third episode comes to talk about Dr. Ismail Sabry Abdullah, who is an exceptional and encyclopedic personality in every sense of the word.
While Dr. Ahmed Saqr Ashour explained that Dr. Ismail Sabry is one of the most important economists in Egypt, as he adopts an economic school based on harmonizing the rights of the individual and the rights of society to achieve economic development, in addition to that he had a future vision, as he headed a group of the best researchers And thinkers to develop a scientific vision for Egypt 2020, which is a scientific project that examines future perceptions of Egypt and how to face challenges at the internal and Arab levels.
For his part, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Issawi indicated that the late pioneer was passionate about science and knowledge, open to various opinions and trends, and knew how to deal with difference, adding that he had enriched the Arab library with hundreds of books, research and articles that contributed – and still are – in shaping Arab economic thought and development work. He also noted that he worked with sincerity and devotion to serve his country, Egypt, until the end of his life.
At the end of the seminar, the participants expressed their welcome to the idea of the Institute of National Planning Pioneers series, which is a kind of appreciation for their pivotal role in enriching and strengthening the role of the Institute locally, regionally and internationally with their expertise and research, hoping to follow these models and complete their honorable scientific career to enhance the role of the Institute during the coming period.
