Within the framework of the implementation of scientific activities organized by the National Planning Institute, the Center for Planning and Industrial Development held the first session of the meeting of experts for the academic year 2019/2020 in Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Helmy Abdel Rahman Hall, on the theme of “maintenance of the national road network”, participated in the meeting And the scientific auxiliary body of the National Planning Institute and invitees from outside the Institute who are interested in the subject, and the meeting lasted for nearly two hours from ten in the morning until 12 noon.
Speaking at the meeting was Prof. Dr. Ahmed Farhat, Professor of Transport, Center for Planning and Industrial Development.
The national road network is a lifeline for sustainable development and opening new horizons to encourage investment, improve infrastructure, and build new urban communities. Egypt has witnessed a strong shift in the international road network and the main link between the governorates in addition to the national internal road network, maintenance and upgrading the efficiency of some existing roads and hubs, and the establishment of new roads that are implemented within the framework of the national road project in accordance with the latest international standards in terms of quality and design.
Therefore, Egypt ranked in the Road Quality Index in the Global Competitiveness Report 2018 in the ranking 45 out of 140 countries compared to 75 out of 137 countries in 2017, as well as compared to rank 118 in 2014 for the same index.
The interest in the new road network has also helped to reduce the rate of accidents in Egypt.Car accidents in Egypt decreased by 23.6% compared to 2017, according to a study by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) 2018.
