The Center for International Economic Relations at the Institute of National Planning held a symposium entitled “The Performance of Global Financial Markets in Light of the Current Economic Crises” as part of community service activities. The seminar was moderated by Prof. Naglaa Harb, Director of the Center, and Mr. Ahmed Abu El-Saad, CEO of Azimut Egypt for Investment Funds Management, member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Stock Exchange and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Association of Investment Experts, and Dr. Ahmed El-Sayed, former Director of Governance Department at the Egyptian Stock Exchange and lecturer at Cairo University and the National Academy. To combat corruption, with the participation and attendance of a number of Egyptian university professors and students.
During the symposium, the latest reports on the successive crises in the world and their economic and social repercussions were reviewed, and the risks of entering into an inflationary stagnation at the global level. It also touched on the effects of successive crises on the performance of global financial markets.
The symposium began by noting that the year 2022 witnessed severe damage to the global financial markets, but on the other hand, the same year included many opportunities and entry points for stock and bond portfolios.
While Mr. Ahmed Abu El-Saad, a member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Stock Exchange, explained that 2022 was one of the worst years in the global financial markets, due to the sharp decline in the value of financial assets, reviewing the analysis of the most important indicators of global financial markets, including American, European, Turkish and Gulf markets, and touched on Evaluating the performance of the Egyptian Stock Exchange, stressing the importance of providing an investment-friendly environment, and developing practical solutions to the current funding gap.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed El-Sayed, former Director of Governance Department at the Egyptian Stock Exchange, stressed the importance of monitoring the performance of global financial markets, reviewing indicators in global markets with a focus on emerging markets, and touching on the conditions of the Egyptian Stock Exchange and the challenges it faces, and the government offerings program. El-Sayed concluded his speech by emphasizing the requirements for the advancement of the Egyptian Stock Exchange, including increasing institutional investment and increasing the depth of the Egyptian market.
